Ramón Díaz Peralta

Ramón Augusto Díaz Peralta (born June 14, 1932 in Salcedo ) is a Dominican pianist and music teacher .

Díaz had his first lessons from his father Ramón Díaz Freeman . He then studied piano in Santo Domingo with Manuela Jiménez , Mario Ceccarelli and Pedro Lerna . A scholarship from the Dominican government enabled him to study at the Real Conservatorio Superior de Música in Madrid, which he completed with the Premio Extraordinario in the subjects of piano and chamber music.

In 1957 he received the title of Professor of Piano at the Conservatory. His participation in the Concurso Internacional de Piano Manuel de Falla in 1958 made him known as a pianist on the Iberian Peninsula. He completed postgraduate studies with Carlo Zecchi at the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome . After his return to the Dominican Republic he became professor of piano and music history at the Conservatorio Nacional .

He also appeared as a piano soloist and chamber musician. He played the Dominican world premieres of Brahms' first and second piano concerto and Bartók's third piano concerto , toured Spain, Italy, Ecuador, Cuba and Puerto Rico and, as a member of the state Trío de Cámara, took part in the 1979 Caribbean art festival Carifesta in Havana. In 1998 he performed Francis Poulenc's Concerto for Two Pianos with the Orquesta Sinfónica Nacional and the pianist Catana Pérez de Cuello under the direction of Julio de Windt .
