Carlo Zecchi , (born July 8, 1903 in Rome , † August 31, 1984 in Salzburg ) was an Italian pianist , conductor and music teacher .

Life

Zecchi studied in Rome and Berlin , there with Busoni and Schnabel . He has made guest appearances as a conductor in Europe, the Soviet Union, the USA, South America and Japan, and as a sought-after pianist he has given numerous concerts with international ensembles. He taught at the Music Academy in Rome and at the Mozarteum in Salzburg. In later years he largely gave up playing the piano in favor of conducting and devoted himself increasingly to chamber music , but still performed occasionally as a pianist. From 1966 to 1976 he was chief conductor of the Vienna Chamber Orchestra . In 1926 he recorded 11 works for the Welte-Mignon reproduction piano , which were published in 2005 on a CD in a complete publication of his work on 5 CDs.

Zecchi's extensive estate is in the Museo Nazionale degli strumenti musicali in Rome. Since 1986 there has been the annual “International Carlo Zecchi Competition Rome” for pianists in Rome.
