Sheringham is a small town on the North Sea coast of Norfolk in England , in the North Norfolk district . In 2001 it had 7143 inhabitants.

Originally the parish of Sheringham consisted of the two villages Upper Sheringham and Lower Sheringham. In Upper Sheringham mainly agriculture was practiced, in Lower Sheringham, which lies directly on the coast, agriculture and fishing.

Sheringham's German twin town is Otterndorf in Lower Saxony .

The polar explorer Ernest Shackleton lived with his family in Sheringham between the Nimrod Expedition (1907-1909) and the Endurance Expedition (1914-1917).
