Johann Baptist Schiedermayr the Younger (also: Schiedermayer, Schiedermair ) (born June 6, 1807 in Linz , † April 16, 1878 ibid) was an Austrian Catholic clergyman.

Life

Johann Baptist Schiedermayr the Younger was born as the son of Johann Baptist Schiedermayr the Elder . His siblings were:

Johann Baptist Schiedermayr the Younger was ordained priest in 1830 and came to the Frintaneum in Vienna for further training . In 1834 he became choir vicar and in the same year Dr. theol. PhD . From 1836 to 1840 he was vice director of the Linz seminary .

In 1840 he was appointed court chaplain and spiritual director of the Frintaneum to Vienna by Ferdinand I.

In 1844 he returned to Linz and became a member of the cathedral chapter and director of the episcopal seminary. In 1848 the Linz Catholic Association was founded, for which Schiedermayr gave the decisive impetus and chaired its founding assembly. This association included representatives from all walks of life. Also in that year he initiated the foundation of the theological-practical quarterly , of which he became the first editor . He was also significantly involved in the establishment of the Catholic orphanage of the Vinzenzverein in Linz. From 1845 to 1853 and from 1865 to 1874 he was the reign of the seminary. In 1853 he became administrator of the Linz city parish and in 1859 provisional parish and in 1860 cathedral dean and school district supervisor in the city ​​and country dean of Linz. In 1865 he became papal chamberlain and in 1874 cathedral provost in Linz.

He was the closest collaborator of Bishop Franz Joseph Rudigier , who in 1855 initiated the construction of the Cathedral of Mary ("New Cathedral"), the foundation stone of which was laid in 1862, but the construction was not completed until 1924.

He was also one of the founders of the Catholic casino , which was brought into being as a counteraction by Catholics following the confiscation of the Rudigier Pastoral Letter of 1868 on the anti-church May Laws.

Act

Schiedermayr was at the beginning and at the head of almost all the relevant Catholic organizations in Upper Austria during this time, which was largely determined by liberalism, in which Catholic consciousness was strengthened.
