Kemal Ademi (born January 23, 1996 in Villingen-Schwenningen ) is a Swiss football player . The striker has been under contract with FC Basel since 2019 .

Life

Ademi was born in Villingen-Schwenningen, Germany, to Kosovar parents who had left their homeland due to the Yugoslav wars , and moved to Herisau, Switzerland , when he was kindergarten . As a result, he now has German citizenship in addition to Swiss. In theory, he would be eligible to play for the Swiss, German, Kosovar or Albanian national teams.

Career

Ademi started playing football in his home town at FC Herisau . He then went through the youth teams of FC St. Gallen , where he also made the leap to the men's division after he was appointed to the U21s for the 2014/15 season, which was then playing in the third-rate Promotion League . In 2015 he moved to the second team of the German Bundesliga club TSG 1899 Hoffenheim , where he was also allowed to participate in the training of Julian Nagelsmann's first team at times . Due to a cruciate ligament injury, Ademi did not play a game for Hoffenheim in the 2017/18 season and finally returned to his home in Switzerland for first division club Neuchâtel Xamax .

With Neuchâtel, he managed to stay in relegation games against FC Aarau at the end of the 2018/19 season in highly regarded relegation games . After a 4-0 home defeat in the first leg, Neuchâtel won the away second leg 4-0 after extra time and finally prevailed on penalties. Ademi scored the 3-0 in the 38th minute of the game. Since his contract expired at the end of the season, Ademi then moved to league rivals FC Basel free of charge and signed a four-year contract until 2023.
