Zdravko "Kuzi" Kuzmanović ( Serbian - Cyrillic Здравко Кузмановић ; born September 22, 1987 in Thun ) is a Serbian - Swiss football player who is currently under contract with FC Basel . He also plays for the Serbian national team .

Club career

Junior period

Kuzmanović, who was born in Switzerland, began his sporting career at FC Dürrenast . After a stop at the larger local club, FC Thun , he switched to the day school of the Bernese Young Boys in 2001 .

FC Basel

He moved from the Young Boys U-21 team to FC Basel in 2004 . There he also played in the U-21 team. From the 2005/06 season he was in the squad of the first team. With FC Basel he won the watch cup in 2006 and the Swiss cup in 2007 .

AC Florence

On January 31, 2007, Kuzmanović moved to the Italian Serie A at Fiorentina when he was 19 . The transfer fee was estimated at three million euros , making Kuzmanović the most expensive Swiss U-21 player of all time. On March 4, 2007, he came to his first appearance in Serie A when he came on in the 65th minute of the game of Fiorentina against FC Turin for Manuele Blasi . With AC Florence, Kuzmanović played in the Champions League for the first time in the 2008/09 season .

VfB Stuttgart

On August 31, 2009, Kuzmanović moved to VfB Stuttgart . His first appearance for the Swabians took place on September 12, 2009 in the Bundesliga match against Hamburger SV , while Kuzmanović scored his first goal for VfB Stuttgart on November 4, 2009 to make it 1-1 against Sevilla FC in the Champions League. He scored his first Bundesliga goal on November 21, 2009 in a 1-1 draw against Hertha BSC . With VfB Stuttgart, Kuzmanović was able to win the watch cup again in 2010 . He played a total of 96 Bundesliga games, ten cup games and 21 international games for Stuttgart .

Inter Milan

On January 31, 2013, Kuzmanović moved to the Italian first division club Inter Milan .

FC Basel

On June 30, 2015, Kuzmanović returned to his home club FC Basel, where he signed a five-year contract. He played his first game on July 19 in a 2-0 home win against FC Vaduz . Due to disagreements with the then coach Urs Fischer , Kuzmanović traveled back to Marbella during the FC Basel training camp to negotiate with another club.

Udinese Calcio

On January 22, 2016, Kuzmanović was loaned to Udinese Calcio in Italy. The loan lasted until the end of the 2016/17 season, with Udinese Calcio having a purchase option that was not drawn.

Málaga CF

Since Kuzmanović was still under contract with FC Basel and this was still coached by Urs Fischer, Kuzmanović was looking for a club to borrow for the 2016/17 season. He then switched to the Spanish Primera División for Málaga FC on loan for a year . After just four games, however, he was out for the rest of the season due to a ruptured Achilles tendon .

National team

Zdravko Kuzmanović, who has both Serbian and Swiss citizenship, was a member of the Swiss U-21 national team , but after talking to the Serbian Football Association , decided to play for Serbia . Kuzmanović completed his first international match for Serbia in the European Championship qualification against Finland on June 2, 2007. His first two goals came in the 3-2 defeat in the European Championship qualifier against Belgium .

Private life

Zdravko Kuzmanović and his wife, who divorced him in 2018, have two daughters.
