society

Van Wolfswinkel was trained in the Vitesse / AGOVV Voetbal Academie (young talent merger of the Vitesse Arnheim and AGOVV Apeldoorn associations ). In the A-Juniors he was the league's top scorer in 2007 and received an award for this performance from Wesley Sneijder , representing the KNVB . On April 5, 2008, during the 2007/08 season, he made his debut in the Eredivisie . In the game against Sparta Rotterdam , the attacker came on for Santi Kolk in the 85th minute . In the summer preparation for the following season, van Wolfswinkel knew how to convince and moved into the team of Arnhemers. On the 3rd match day, again against Sparta Rotterdam, he scored the first time for his club. After a good year, he announced in May 2009 that he would leave Vitesse for the 2009/10 season.

In the summer of 2009 he moved to league rivals FC Utrecht , where he signed a three-year contract. Van Wolfswinkel was able to earn a regular place straight away. However, he only made the real breakthrough in 2010/11 when he was the best attacker of his team in the Eredivisie with fifteen hits. He also attracted international attention this season after scoring four goals in four games in the national play-offs of the UEFA Europa League . During the Euro League 2010/11 season , the attacker played twelve games (including six qualifying games), scoring eight goals. Utrecht was eliminated from the tournament after the group stage. Since his good performances both nationally and internationally, van Wolfswinkel has been on the notes of major European clubs.

Sporting Lisbon secured its services for the next five seasons for the 2011/12 season. For the 2013/14 season Ricky van Wolfswinkel moved to Norwich City in the English Premier League and was relegated with the club. For the 2014/15 season he was loaned to the French first division club AS Saint-Étienne and for the 2015/16 season to the Spanish first division club Betis Sevilla . For the 2016/17 season, van Wolfswinkel moved to the Dutch first division club Vitesse Arnheim , with whom he won the Dutch Cup in his first season . In the final, he scored both goals in a 2-0 win against AZ Alkmaar and thus secured his team the first-time win of the national cup competition .

On June 14, 2017, FC Basel announced that they had reached an agreement with van Wolfswinkel about a move from Vitesse Arnheim. He signed a three-year contract ending June 30, 2020.

National team

Van Wolfswinkel played in various junior national teams of the Dutch. In addition, he has come to a number of missions for the B-Elf of the Orange .

After the 2010 World Cup , bond coach Bert van Marwijk van Wolfswinkel called for the match in Donetsk on August 11, 2010 against Ukraine for the first time in the senior national team. Since the game was close to the World Cup final, van Marwijk had decided not to use the players who played at the World Cup. Van Wolfswinkel played in the 1-1 draw from kick-off for over 70 minutes before he was substituted for Roy Beerens , who was also making his debut .
