Silvan Widmer (born March 5, 1993 in Aarau ) is a Swiss football player . He can be used in defense and midfield .

Career

Silvan Widmer spent his junior years at SV Würenlos, FC Baden and FC Aarau . He made his debut for FC Aarau in the Challenge League on matchday 1 of the 2011/12 season on July 23, 2011 against FC Winterthur . The first goal came in the 13th matchday in a 2-2 draw against FC St. Gallen , in the 54th minute with a header goal.

In 2012 Widmer signed with FC Granada , but temporarily stayed with FC Aarau by means of a loan contract, which achieved promotion to the Super League that season . In 2013 he switched to Udinese Calcio instead , where he quickly became a regular.

For the 2018/19 season, Widmer moved to the Super League at FC Basel , where he signed a four-year contract.

National team

On October 14, 2014 Widmer made his debut in the European Championship qualifier against San Marino for the Swiss national football team . In the 4-0 away win he was substituted on for Stephan Lichtsteiner when the score was 3-0 in the 59th minute of the game .

He was in the provisional squad for the 2016 European Championships in France , but was not considered for the final round.
