The FC Baden is a Swiss football club from Baden in the canton of Aargau , founded 1897th The club colors are red and white. Around 500 players are currently being trained in almost 30 teams. The first men's team has been playing in the first division , the fourth-highest division in Switzerland , since the 2006/07 season . The first women's team plays in the second division. FC Baden currently has almost 1,000 members. The current club president has been Heinz Gassmann since 2018, who had already led the club between 2002 and 2010. The aim of the club is to generate the best possible trained young talent for the Swiss Football Association and to promote football .
history
English employees of Brown Boveri & Cie AG (today Asea Brown Boveri ) first dealt with this new sport in Switzerland in 1897 . Despite enormous difficulties in arousing interest and finding supporters, the young club fought bravely. At first it had no fixed structure, but that changed in 1905. At that time, Baden played in the “Central Switzerland” group and was then divided into the “Eastern Switzerland” group. The first eleven fought for the B championship in 1907 and rose to the highest league at the time, Serie A. Back then, that was the biggest success in the still young history of FC Baden.
The team now had big problems to assert themselves and suffered a few defeats. After a long struggle until the 1917/18 season , relegation could no longer be avoided. It then went up and down at FC Baden for a long time, until the 1923/24 season brought something special. 13 games were won and only two lost. FC Baden had fought for 26 points. Unfortunately, they lost 12 points in the Flury case. Flury was an ineligible athlete with false information.
In 1949 a new club era began, as FC Baden was able to reach the third-class first division. On May 29, 1949, FC Baden was able to qualify as group champions for the promotion games. In the decisive game against FC Breitenbach , on June 26, 1949, the team scored the decisive goal in the last second and thus rose to the first division. A year later, the club made it to the quarter-finals of the Swiss Cup , but suffered a defeat against Servette . After 15 years in the 1st division, FC Baden was represented in the National League B for the first time on June 11, 1964 . He won the playoff against SC Burgdorf 3-1 in Olten. He tried two years earlier, but ended up losing 3-1 against FC Cantonal Neuchâtel . In 1979 and 1982 he was able to place himself there two more times. At the first championship game in the newly climbed National League B, the club was quickly brought back to the ground after losing to SC Brühl St. Gallen 7-1. The team of FC Baden found it difficult to stay in the National League B and in 1969 had to relegate back to the first division. Even with the second attempt in 1979, the club could not hold long in the National League B, only with the third attempt in 1982 did FC Baden prove themselves.
In the 1985/86 season came the club's greatest success at present. On 20 June 1985, the FC was bathing the FC Martigny-Sports in the final of the promotion round with 4: 1 beat, an increase in the top flight in Switzerland, the National League A in. During one season the club played in the National League A, but then had to relegate again after many lost games.
Today, FC Baden is one of the most committed training clubs in the Limmat Valley . The men's 1st team plays under the direction of Thomas Jent. Since the 2005/06 season he has played consistently in the upper table ranks of the first division . The goal of FC Baden is promotion to the Promotion League .
The Scharten football field
In 1922 the Scharten football field was bought. FC Baden had never before had its own arena and back then it was still a very expensive affair. But the Scharten increased in value, which however led some to want to sell the place. In 1928 the Seniors' Convention, consisting of honorary members, president and important members, was founded, which decided on all changes. Fritz Voser, chairman of the convention, was against the idea of selling the football field, so that nobody could attack it. In 1988, after the Scharten was sold and the new Esp stadium moved into , the convention was dissolved.
FC Baden had to wait a long time for a grandstand, changing room and shower room until it finally happened in 1950. Thanks to the 50th anniversary of the club, the costly project could finally be taken in hand by the newly founded finance and building commission through numerous donations. The grandstand has started to be realized with only CHF 4'600. There were many opponents who wanted to prevent the construction, but numerous donations, teamwork and team spirit made the project a great success.
The inauguration of the night play facility on the Scharten was, in addition to the purchase of the space in 1922 and the inauguration of the grandstand in 1949, another major milestone in the history of FC Baden. In 1958 the time had come, now FC Baden also had the opportunity to play in the evening, which was very beneficial to the ever faster growing football club. 1,500 spectators came to the inauguration to see a game against FC Zurich .
Stadium Esp
There was an acute shortage of playing fields in Baden for a long time. In addition, the Wettingen community also claimed the notch for some purposes. FC Baden urgently needed more space, so they looked for a new training area. On December 4, 1975, the board of directors announced that Wettingen had signed the purchase agreement and that the Scharten football field had thus been sold. The sales price was set at CHF 1,935,790, but FC Baden still had the right of use until the municipality of Wettingen claimed it. The city of Baden thought of the implementation of a sports facility at an early stage and acquired a 7 hectare piece of open land in the municipality of Fislisbach in the 1960s . Unfortunately, an acceptable solution could only be found after long and intensive negotiations about the use and zoning of the area. On May 24, 1984, the residents' council approved a project loan of CHF 120,000 for the Esp sports facility and a year later a construction loan of CHF 6.186 million. On June 30, 1985, the voters also approved the project with a clear majority Well. Now nothing stood in the way of FC Baden to build their own stadium. After completion, the club finally had enough space to train; also a large grandstand , changing rooms, storage rooms and much more. The opening ceremony took place on June 11th and 12th, 1988.
Since June 14, 2008, the 20th anniversary of the Esp Stadium, the Esp Stadium has had a VIP area (called RVBW Lounge). It was built to provide better opportunities to hospitalize sponsors and to have additional meeting rooms. Three years later, on September 3, 2011, the opening ceremony of the new artificial turf took place. To this day, it enables FC Baden to train all year round and 50 test matches in winter.

Support Association
Due to the growing success in 1951, the promotion to the first division, the financial means became increasingly scarce. The game could hardly be denied, and a coach was urgently needed. With the founding of the supporter association one wanted to support the FC Baden financially. The then Baden pharmacist Heinz Hemmi gave the impetus. After the matter had been thoroughly considered, Messrs Heinz Hemmi, Willi Fischer and Fritz Minder called a founding meeting on October 5, 1951. Then twenty men showed themselves ready to help FC Baden. In 2016, the supporter association of FC Baden had almost 150 members, without whom the game would not be possible in this context.

The juniors are selected and trained from their own junior team so that they can later join their own ranks.
Team Limmattal
The Limmattal team was founded in 2004 by FC Baden and the surrounding parent clubs FC Baden, FC Obersiggenthal, FC Kappelerhof, Fislisbach, FC Neuenhof and SV Würenlos. It consists of players from these clubs and is under the management of FC Baden. The aim of this team is to optimally train young, talented players from categories D and E and to prepare them for competitive sport . The focus in the Limmattal team is to individually promote talents through targeted and sustainable training. The juniors up to U-11 continue to play for their home clubs alongside the Limmattal team. In order to guarantee a competent basic education, the young players have training three times a week and a game on the weekend. Every year the Limmattal team organizes a one-week training camp in Italy. The teams C1, Fe-13 and Fe-12 take part in the championship as independent teams. The Fe-13 and Fe-12 are financially supported by the Swiss Football Association (SFV for short) as part of the Footeco project.
Team Aargau
The Aargau team has been a merger of the Aargau clubs FC Aarau , FC Baden and FC Wohlen since 2006 to jointly promote the region's talented young footballers in professional training structures. There are currently six former FC Baden players from Team Aargau in the Super League or Challenge League teams, including Silvan Widmer ( Udinese Calcio ) and Oliver Jäckle and Marco Thaler (FC Aarau). Since 2010, the Aargau team has also provided U-16 and U-18 teams in the women's category. FC Baden has agreed to take over the last training segment in the Aargau team and to introduce the best players after the U18 to the professional area and to integrate them into the active area. Six players from the Aargau team are already in the first team of FC Baden. In Team Aargau 's women's football , the goal is to offer the players excellent training. Two players from the Aargau team made it into the Swiss national team .
Other sports departments
athletics
FC Baden once had an athletics section, which no longer exists today. In the years after the First World War, athletics were trained on the Scharten sports field. FC Baden was able to celebrate successes, but the section was closed after a few years due to a lack of young talent.
Africa project
FC Baden is also involved in charity with the Africa project. This is a development aid project in which the club donates its old jerseys and other material to third world countries. With the delivery of 30 old dress sets and additional material to aid organizations in the Third World , FC Baden was able to establish valuable contacts with aid organizations. In addition to Kenya, Romania and Zanzibar, FC Baden also sent a delivery of material to Calheta on Cape Verde . At this sports school run by the Swiss Beat Clerc, not only football but also running is taught. FC Baden started a long-term collaboration with the club “bd sport active” in Calheta do Sao Miguel on the Cape Verde Islands. The training is geared towards girls and boys from performance class U10. The basic idea is to combine sport, education and culture, which is why the school is also called ADEC; Academia de Desporto, Educação e Cultura. Baden will continue to collect material and money at the Esp Stadium to support this school.
