Calheta is a village in the Cape Verde Islands . It is located in the west of the island of Maio, about ten kilometers north of the island's capital, Cidade do Maio, and is the second largest settlement on the island with about 1,156 inhabitants.
The local soccer team of the Académica da Calheta club plays in the Liga Insolar do Maio , which they won in 2007, 2008 and 2014 and thus subsequently took part in the national championship, the Campeonato Cabo-verdiano de Futebol .
