The Geneva trolleybus is the second largest trolleybus system in Switzerland after the Lausanne trolleybus . It was opened on September 11, 1942 and has since complemented the Geneva tram that opened in 1862 . Today the transport company Transports publics genevois - abbreviated TPG , until 1976 Compagnie Genevoise des Tramways Électriques - operates six trolleybus lines in the city of Geneva and the neighboring communities of Cologny , Le Grand-Saconnex , Lancy , Meyrin , Onex and Vernier . They are supplemented by various bus lines from the same company. The municipalities of Bernex and Confignon have not been served since December 11, 2011 ; the connection there has been converted to tram operation.

The loner 721 was created in autumn 2003 by adding a third part of the car 709 of the Swisstrolley (BGT-N) type built in 1993. It was the first Swiss double-articulated trolleybus and served as a prototype for the series lighTram 3 (BGGT-N2C) car. In the summer of 2016 he was taken out of service due to its age and the difficulty in keeping spare parts. A decision has not yet been made about the whereabouts of the parked vehicle.
The 18-meter-long VanHool Exqui.City articulated trolleys replaced the last non-barrier-free types GT 560 / 620-25 and BGT 5-25 at the end of 2014 . They offer 86 standing and 41 seats and have an auxiliary battery drive, which has a range of seven to fourteen kilometers. The series cost 29.42 million Swiss francs , and the first car went into operation on Line 3 on January 21, 2014.

Operating facilities
The Jonction depot is located in the Geneva district of the same name, in the immediate vicinity of the confluence of the Arve and the Rhone . The operating facilities there extend on both sides of the avenue de la Jonction and are connected to the overhead lines of lines 2 and 19 to Onex-Cité via this service route.
The main workshop Bachet-de-Pesay on Route de la Chapelle in Grand-Lancy , which does not have a contact line connection to the trolleybus network, is available for heavy maintenance . The TPG administration is also located on the premises.
