history
In 1919, regional power plants in western Switzerland , including those in the cities of Lausanne and Geneva, founded Energie de l'ouest-suisse with the aim of making better use of the region's hydropower. The first project was the construction of a 130 kV high-voltage line between Lausanne and Geneva, so that the Lausanne electricity company and the Société Romande d'Électricité could deliver excess energy to Geneva. To supply western Switzerland with electrical energy, new hydropower plants had to be built in the Valais Alps , the energy of which was brought to western Switzerland via high-voltage transmission networks that were also to be built. In the 1940s, the EOS network extended to France ; in the 1950s, Italy was opened up with a line over the Simplon Pass . In 1961 the Grande Dixence plant goes into operation, one of the largest storage power plants in Switzerland. 2006 EOS takes over the majority of shares in Motor-Columbus . In 2009, EOS Holding SA, founded in 2002, amalgamated its previous activities with those of Atel , from which Alpiq emerged . The new company will become the largest Swiss energy supplier in which EOS Holding SA holds a 31.4% stake.
