The Services Industriels de Genève (SIG) is a Swiss infrastructure company based in Le Lignon in the town of Vernier . While it has a monopoly in the areas of drinking water, sewage, waste disposal and electricity distribution in the canton of Geneva , it competes with other companies in the areas of natural gas and heat supply, electricity generation and other services (e.g. telecommunications).
history
The company was founded in 1896. From 1896 to 1931 the company was under municipal control of the city of Geneva , and since 1931 it has been under cantonal supervision.
Ownership structure
According to Article 3 of the Loi sur l'organisation des Services industriels de Genève (Law on the Organization of Services industriels de Genève), the company's share capital is CHF 100 million. Of this, 55 million francs are held by the canton of Geneva , 30 million francs by the city of Geneva and the remaining 15 million francs by the other municipalities in the canton of Geneva.

- Société des Forces Motrices de Chancy-Pougny SA , Chancy , electricity generation in the Chancy-Pougny power plant , 72.2%
- Swisspower Renewables AG , Zurich , holding company in the field of renewable energies, 23.3%
- Swisspower Energy AG , Zurich, energy distribution, 29.9%
