The Swiss power based in Zurich is a joint venture of Swiss municipalities and public utilities in the areas of electricity , gas , heat and water . The company was founded in 2000 and is supported by 22 shareholder partners from all over Switzerland.

Field of activity

As an alliance of the Swiss public utilities, Swisspower provides services for energy supply companies . Two independent companies (Swisspower AG and Swisspower Renewables AG) that focus on different fields of activity are united under the common umbrella brand Swisspower:

Swisspower AG

Swisspower AG is the umbrella of the Swisspower Group. It coordinates and represents the group's interests in politics and the public and represents its shareholders in the relevant industry associations. It is an innovation laboratory for the development of new business fields and combines not only electricity, gas and district heating but also efficiency, information and mobility solutions. In addition to developing new cooperation potential among the municipal utilities, one of the main tasks of Swisspower AG is to implement the Swisspower Master Plan 2050. The 22 shareholders of Swisspower AG ultimately benefit from the exchange of experiences with one another and can expand their knowledge - for example, on new solutions in the heating sector, on smart technologies or on environmentally friendly mobility. Furthermore, Swisspower AG supports its customers on the path to the energy transition. Energy suppliers, major customers, cities and municipalities benefit from specialist knowledge of all aspects of energy efficiency, climate protection and renewable energies.

Swisspower Renewables AG

Swisspower Renewables AG invests in systems for generating electricity from renewable energies. It focuses on onshore wind power and hydropower in Switzerland and neighboring European countries. The company has had a successful growth phase and will produce around 640 GWh of electricity per year from 2017. The holding company, which is owned by eleven municipal utilities, is thus making a significant contribution to the goal of Swisspower Stadtwerke's 2050 master plan to supply Switzerland with electricity from renewable energies in the long term.
