Eptinger is a Swiss mineral water that belongs to the family company Mineralquelle Eptingen AG . It is one of the mineral waters in Switzerland with a very high mineral content. In particular, the values for the physiologically active elements calcium and magnesium are very pronounced compared to other mineral waters. The values of Valser and Aproz , for example, are similarly high, albeit lower . Due to the calcareous Jura, Eptinger has a high content of these minerals and, compared to Valser and Aproz, which come from the granite Alps, no detectable uranium content. Local mineral water has always been available free of charge to the residents of the village of Eptingen.

history

  • In 1900 the business partners Edmund Buchenhorner and Ernst Singer had the water from the spring of Bad Eptingen bottled for the first time and sold as Eptinger mineral water.
  • Soldiers who were stationed on the Hauenstein mountain near Eptingen during the First World War were allowed to drink Eptinger for free. After the war, the soldiers who returned home contributed to the fact that the Baselbiet mineral water also gained popularity outside the region.
  • In 1947, the Basel graphic artist Herbert Leupin created the poster with the slogan “Drink better Eptinger”, which sparked an outcry among the innkeepers because they feared a decline in alcohol consumption and the associated financial losses.
  • A landslide on the Edelweisshang in Eptingen destroyed the storage and bottling building for the Eptinger mineral water on July 27, 1969. After three days of interruption, the Eptingen mineral spring was able to refill mineral water in a temporary facility - thanks to a special permit.
  • In 1973 the company opened a new production building on the opposite side of the valley.

Advertising posters

In 1941, the long-term collaboration between the Basel graphic artist Herbert Leupin and the Eptingen mineral spring began . A large number of Eptinger posters were created over the next few decades. Among them eleven, which the Allgemeine Postergesellschaft selected in 1991 as the 50 most beautiful advertising posters in Switzerland.

Awards

In the chemical analysis of the 20 best-selling mineral waters in Switzerland published by K-Tipp in May 2016 , the Eptingen mineral water received the top rating. The analysis focused on potential contamination in mineral water caused by pharmaceuticals , pesticides and artificial sweeteners . The analysis also showed how high the content of toxic uranium and the desired minerals calcium and magnesium is.
