history

The history of Volksbank Rhein-Erft-Köln eG, formerly Raiffeisenbank Frechen-Hürth eG, goes back to 1880. The bank's roots lay in Gleuel, Urbach and Worringen. Over the years, Raiffeisen banks and savings and loan funds have been founded in more and more places, and over the years they have merged into ever larger units, most recently in October 2019.

According to the statutes, the goals were:

"Raising the economy and the acquisition of members and implementation of all measures suitable for the establishment of this purpose, in particular

a) advantageous procurement of economic resources,

b) favorable sales of economic products "

These first statutes were ultimately based on agricultural purposes, as the Raiffeisen banks basically did in the early years. However, this text did not do justice to the predominant concerns of the other members. Immediately after pressure from the members, it was rethought and reformulated. Already the general assembly on January 23, 1902, almost a year later, changed the goal of the statutes as follows:

"The object is the company and the operation of a savings and loan bank business for the purpose of:

1. the facilitation of financial investments and the promotion of savings interest,

2. the granting of loans to the comrades for commercial operations. "

This took account of the will to save, especially of the workers. Temporary workers, factory workers, bakers and other workers soon joined the board members to a greater extent in the board elections in the following years. Master mason on.

Today's main office at Brabanter Platz was moved into in 1956 and expanded in 1972.
