Today there are also commercial buildings in Bad Bubendorf and the meadows are used for sports events.
history
The first written record of Bad Bubendorf dates back to the middle of the 17th century, when on April 20, 1641 the governor of the mayorship of Basel mentioned the healing spring to Vogt Jakob Zörnlein from Waldenburg . In 1741 there was a first bath hut and bath house with a barn, which was replaced by a new building in 1764 by Schultheiss David La Roche. In 1804, thanks to the great success, the bathroom had to be expanded by Matthias Flubacher.
Bad Bubendorf became famous through the gathering of 25 Basel bidders who, on October 18, 1830 , demanded complete equality between townspeople and country citizens in a petition written by Stephan Gutzwiller to the “highly respected gentlemen and superiors in Basel”. This was the beginning of the cantonal division of Basel . Since then, Bad Bubendorf has been called the Rütli in Basel .
Brine baths were set up in 1837, but in the 19th century the bathing business was given up and only the hotel business remained. In 1880 the train station opposite the hotel was opened, which significantly improved the accessibility of the country inn.
1979–1981 the ensemble was renovated by Rudolf Huber. Hotel Bad Bubendorf AG has been running the restaurant and hotel since 1999 .
Todays use
The Bad Bubendorf building is still used today as a restaurant (country inn) and hotel. Around the hotel, along the main street, some industrial buildings were built. The area up the valley is used as a commercial quarter. Down the valley, arable land and pasture still dominate. This land is regularly used for major events. In 2002 the center of the Federal Gymnastics Festival with 75,000 participants was in Bad Bubendorf and in 2008 the 9th stadium was built here for the European Football Championship (has since been removed). The future use is still unclear, there are plans for a motor vehicle control station and a polysport center.
