Hersberg ( Swiss German Herschbrg ) is a municipality in the district of Liestal in the canton of Basel-Landschaft in Switzerland .
geography
Hersberg lies between Arisdorf and Liestal . Other neighboring communities are Lausen , Nusshof and Olsberg .
history
Hersberg was first mentioned in a document in 1226. Based on the name one suspects an Alemannic origin. The combination of personal names (such as Heri or Hari) and "-berg" was very common among the Alemanni . In 1461 the village came under the rule of the city of Basel . During the Thirty Years' War , Hersberg, which borders the then Habsburg Fricktal, was sacked by Spanish soldiers. It was also not spared the plague .
coat of arms
The coat of arms of Hersberg has existed since 1945. It represents a red stepped gable on a white background, which stands on a green three-mountain . The stepped gable symbolizes the courtyard from which the village has developed. Above it is a horizontal stripe that contains a red and white checkerboard pattern.
