history

Archaeological finds show that the area of Seltisberg was already settled in the Stone Age. It is certain that the Romans had an estate here. Seltisberg was first mentioned in a document in 1194: as "Selboldisperch". The village then belonged to the Frohburgers. In 1305 it came to the bishop and in 1400 to the city of Basel . In 1803 Seltisberg was assigned to the Liestal district. In 1855 the community was hit by a cholera epidemic due to unclean drinking water .

coat of arms

Seltisberg has had an official coat of arms since 1944. It is divided into two halves by a horizontal line. In the upper area there is a silver strawberry blossom with a golden center and green leaves on a red background. The lower half is white. The strawberry blossom is reminiscent of the Seltisberger's earlier nickname: "Ärbeerischnitzer" (strawberry carver). The coat of arms is very similar to that of the in the canton of Bern located Seftigen . They only differ in the division in the middle and the strawberry blossom.
