The Murau Brewery is an Austrian brewery in Murau .

history

As early as the middle of the 15th century there were three breweries in Murau , to which the one on Raffaltplatz, the only one still in operation, was added in 1495. In the 16th century the number rose to seven. Valentin Bauer (owner from 1823 to 1856), who was also elected first mayor of Murau in 1848, played a key role in ensuring that the Murau brewery was the only one to survive the turmoil of the 19th century. But his successors as brewery owners also always tried to adapt the operation to the economic and technical framework conditions.

1906–1908 the municipality built the Murau power plant to supply the brewery with electricity. In 1910 it was converted into a cooperative . During the Second World War the company was threatened with closure due to a lack of workers. With the support of Adolf von Schwarzenberg , who sent some of his followers to brew, this time could also be bridged.

In the 1980s and 1990s, the brewing volume could be increased significantly through successful market strategies (from 65,000 hl in 1980 to 304,000 hl in 2011).
