The Wildenstein Castle is next to the castle in the town of Burg im Leimental the only hilltop castle of the Basel region preserved. It is located south of Bubendorf in a side valley of the Hinteren Frenke. The walk from Bubendorf train station to the castle is around an hour.
history
In 1293 Heinrich von Eptingen took the name "von Wildenstein". Under his son Gottfrid, Wildenstein experienced a storming of the castle by the Bernese and Solothurners because of a breach of the peace by his owner in 1334 . The extent of this damage and that of the Basel earthquake of 1356 are not known. In 1380 Henmann von Eptingen sold the castle to the siblings Elsi, Götzmann and Markwart von Baden. Several changes of ownership took place later. In 1594, near the castle, the " Rappen War " was amicably settled.
In 1995 the canton of Basel-Landschaft acquired the Wildenstein, and today cultural events take place here on a regular basis.
