A film tablet (abbreviation: FTA or Ftbl., Also FCT from the English film coated tablet ) is a tablet with a thin coating of a polymer . In the past it was also known as a coated tablet, but the term film-coated tablet has established itself. The tablet is different from the sugar-coated tablet with sugar coating . The polymer coating can cover the unpleasant taste, make swallowing easier, protect the medicinal substance from external influences and, if necessary, can also be gastric juice-resistant so that the active substance is only released in the intestine. In contrast to the dragée , the film-coated tablet can be divided.
