Burghalden ruins

The Burghalden castle ruins are the ruins of a spur castle above Liestal in the canton of Basel-Landschaft .

investment

The facility is located on the Bergsporn Burghalden , which penetrates across the valley. In 1978 the castle was partially preserved after an area excavation. On the east side there is a wall with two weakly pronounced trenches . To the west of the wall, another perimeter wall surrounds the 30 meter wide and 130 meter long rock spur. There is a square tower at the northern end of the castle ruins. The southern end was destroyed by the construction of a bunker during World War II.

A small hall church stood on the south side of the complex. The three meter wide entrance gate was on the southwest side of the church.

history

Several stages of construction of the entire castle can be assumed. The small finds date from between 900 and 1100 AD. The ruins probably belonged to Count Chadaloh . He is attested as lord in the Augstgau between 891 and 894 AD . The field name Burghalden has been documented since the 13th century .
