Michael Wolkenstein (born May 16, 1940 in Vienna ) is an Austrian film producer (including founder of SATEL Film). With his company he produced numerous films, but also cult series such as “ Kottan determined ”, the “ Piefke Saga ”, “ Schlosshotel Orth ” and “ SOKO Donau ”. Selva was also an aviation operator.

Life

Wolkenstein was born in Vienna as the son of Anton von Wolkenstein and his wife Martha-Sophie. From 1959 to 1963 he studied law at the University of Vienna . From 1963 to 1965 he worked as an assistant at Schönbrunnfilm in Vienna. In 1965 he founded his own company "MW Agentur für Film- und TV" (production company), and in 1966 he founded Sascha-Ufa-Werbefilm GmbH, Vienna, of which he was managing partner until 1972. In 1971 SATEL TV & Filmproduktions Ges.mbH (Polygram, CABV, Wolkenstein) was founded. In 1976 he succeeded in expanding to Germany and establishing other companies in Munich, Berlin and Cologne.

In 1980 he completed the expansion with the establishment of Satel-Doc Int. London from. In 1999 he sold his Polygram shares to Bavaria Film Munich. He has been married to Astrid since 1968. The marriage has two sons. Michael von Wolkenstein received various awards for his diverse efforts and services to Austrian and German-language film and television production - u. a. he is the holder of the Golden Decoration of Honor of the Republic of Austria. From 1971 to 2006 he was President, CEO and shareholder of the SATEL GROUP. In 2006/2007 he sold his Satel shares to Bavaria Film Munich. As an aviation entrepreneur, he founded Comtel-Air in 1987, which he headed until 2003. As early as 1974 and 1980 he received his professional and airline pilot license, which he exercised until 2005. From 2000 to 2003 he was the main shareholder of Aero Lloyd Austria, which passed to FlyNiki in 2003 .

Michael Wolkenstein also has several functions in the Austrian and German film industry. Since 1990 he has been a professional lay judge at the Vienna Commercial Court and a sworn expert for film and television, and since 1991 a board member and treasurer of FIAPF (Fédération Internationale des Associations de Producteurs de Films). Since 2006 he has been a member of the Presidium of the SPIO (Central Organization of the German Film Industry) and since 2013 President of the Kitzbühel Film Festival. Before that, from 2006 to 2012 he was Deputy Chairman of the Advisory Board of VGF Germany (collecting society for producer rights) and from 2010 to 2012 a member of the board of the Alliance of German Producers Film & Television. From 2006 to 2010 he was President of the Association of German Film Producers, from 1990 to 2005 Chairman / President of the Association of the Austrian Film & Audiovision Industry and since 2005 its Honorary President. Michael Wolkenstein is co-founder and honorary president of the Austrian Film Commission , member of the funding commission of the FFA, Germany, member of the FFA administrative board member from 2006 to May 2010, FFA guidelines commission member from 2006 to May 2010, FFA advertising commission (KIS) member from 2009 to May 2010 , EU commission FFA member from 2009 to May 2010, award commission FFA member from 2009 to June 2011, member of the board of trustees of the Austrian Film Institute, Vienna, member of the board of trustees of the Vienna Film Financing Fund (now: Vienna Film Fund), and co-founder and board member of VAM (collecting society for audiovisual media GmbH).
