life and work

In 1967, Alfred Payrleitner became deputy editor-in-chief of ORF as deputy to Alfons Dalma . There Payrleitner was also the main department head for politics and current affairs. As a presenter, he appeared in the live reports on the National Council elections in 1970 and 1971 and in the ORF Report program.
In 1975, Alfred Payrleitner switched to the daily newspaper Kurier as chief commentator . In 1979 he returned to ORF and took over the main departments of Documentation (until 1984) and Education and Current Affairs (1984–1997). In 2007 he was appointed honorary chairman of the readers' advocacy, but described this body as "pointless" due to a lack of skills. The readers' advocacy was founded by the editors-in-chief's association as the successor to the press council , which was dissolved in 2001.
