Pieter van Gunst
Pieter Stevensz. van Gunst , also Pieter Stevens van Gunst or Petrus Stephani (* 1659 in Amsterdam ; † November 1732 there , burial on November 10, 1732) was a Dutch draftsman, etcher and engraver.
Life
Pieter van Gunst made well over 1000 portrait engravings based on models by artists such as Anthonis van Dyck and Adriaen van der Werff . In addition to these portrait prints, he made numerous title pages and book illustrations.
Little is known of his further living conditions. He married Leonora Baarselmans from The Hague in Amsterdam in 1687 and became an art dealer in the Amsterdam Booksellers Guild in 1712. On November 10, 1732 he was buried in the Westerkerk of Amsterdam.
There is a risk of confusion with his son of the same name, the engraver and poet Pieter van Gunst.
