Karl Stoeckl

Karl Stöckl (born November 16, 1873 in Eichstätt ; † March 19, 1959 in Regensburg ) was a German physicist and professor at the Philosophical-Theological University of Regensburg .

Life

From 1892 Stöckl studied mathematics and physics in Munich for teaching at the grammar school and then received his doctorate there in 1900. At the University of Tübingen he became an assistant at the Physics Institute and adjunct at the Meteorological Station of the University of Munich. In 1904 he was appointed professor of mathematics, physics and astronomy at the Passau Lyceum , and from 1919 to 1936 he was transferred to the Philosophical-Theological College in Regensburg. From 1920 onwards the observatory there was used as the Regensburg public observatory . Stöckl wrote many popular scientific publications, but presented less independent research. In 1930 he devoted himself particularly to the Festschrifton the 300th anniversary of the death of Johannes Kepler .

Stöckl received the Citizen Prize (Lamont Prize) of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences . He received the Albertus Magnus Medal from the city of Regensburg in 1953 . During World War I he served as a captain in the Bavarian War Ministry and received the Iron Cross 2nd class . In November 1933 he signed the German professors' confession of Adolf Hitler .
