Veit Heiduschka
Veit Heiduschka (born May 20, 1938 in Döbeln ) is an Austrian film producer and founder and director of Wega Film . In this role he has already realized several dozen film productions, often in collaboration with other film production companies , for cinema and television. Veit Heiduschka is the producer of most of the films by director Michael Haneke .
Life
Heiduschka grew up in the GDR. Since his father was a political prisoner, he was not allowed to take a high school diploma; then he completed an apprenticeship as a retail salesman. In 1956 he fled to the Federal Republic of Germany, completed an apprenticeship as an industrial clerk and went to Vienna in 1959, where he initially planned to work as a freelance writer.
From 1961 he made up his Matura as an external student and from 1964 studied German philology and theater studies at the Vienna University ; in addition, he occupied himself for some time with philosophy and psychology. In 1969 he received his doctorate as Dr. phil .
From 1966 he worked parallel to his studies at the theater, where he learned “everything from scratch - from lighting technician to assistant director, stage manager and so on”. He worked for one season at the Wagner Festival in Bayreuth .
Then Veit Heiduschka was production manager and managing director at various film companies for ten years. In 1980 he founded the Wega film production company, of which he is the managing director to this day. In addition, he also realized several films as a screenwriter and director.
Veit Heiduschka is also president of the Austrian Film Commission (AFC), managing director of the collecting society for audiovisual media (VAM), president of the producers' association Film Austria , chairman of feature film and television film production in the professional association of the film and music industry (FAFO). He was also a lecturer at the Vienna Film Academy , is a member of the European Film Academy and the only Austrian member of the Academy.
