Kaya Yanar (born May 20, 1973 in Frankfurt am Main ) is a German comedian , television presenter , actor and live streamer . His breakthrough came with the award-winning Sat.1 - comedy series What are you looking at ?! .

Career

Kaya Yanar attended the humanistic Heinrich-von-Gagern-Gymnasium in Frankfurt am Main , where he passed the Abitur . He then studied phonetics , American studies and philosophy at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main , but did not obtain a degree.

Yanar became known in 2001 through the Sat.1 comedy show Was peeping ?! in which he played with the stereotypes of various ethnic groups, a television format adopted from the UK that is often referred to as "ethno-comedy". There he was both moderator and leading actor of most of the skits . In addition, he toured Germany with three solo programs. The recordings of his programs Made in Germany (2008), Live and uncensored (2009) and All Inclusive! (2013) were broadcast by RTL .

In 2008, Yanar had a leading role in a feature film alongside Mark Keller in the television comedy Dekker & Adi - Who brakes loses! He also moderated the ZDF - show Kaya Yanar tests Germany - the multi-cultural show (2007) as part of a focus week on integration . Within the development of an acceptance of multicultural cultural products in Germany, Yanar is named as a key figure and pioneer, since his broad success at the time of his appearance in the German media was unprecedented for an artist with a Turkish migration background in the German-speaking area.

From January 2011 to December 2012, Yanar was seen together with Paul Panzer on RTL in the program Stars at Work , in which celebrities pursue unfamiliar professional activities. Also in January 2011 he published his first book with the title Made in Germany with Heyne Verlag . From March 2011 Kaya Yanar was with his live program All Inclusive! on tour in Germany. The Kaya Show was broadcast on RTL from January 14 to February 25, 2012 . In 2013 it had the additional title Typically German ?! The Kaya Show , as the focus of the program was on German clichés and legal texts.

Since December 2012, Yanar has been the sponsor of the Heinrich Middendorf High School in Aschendorf in the project “School without Racism - School with Courage”. In 2013 he was nominated for the Arosa Humor Shovel, a jury award at the Humor Festival in Arosa . Since autumn 2013 he has been on the road in Germany , Austria and Switzerland with his Around the World program . On April 25, 2014, RTL broadcast its Geht's noch ?! Kaya's week aired. It's a weekly recap with a mix of stand-up comedy and political satire .

From 2014 to 2015, Yanar hosted the breakdown show Life! - Stupid on RTL. Since the new edition of Genial Beside in spring 2017, Yanar has been a recurring guest on the council show. Also with the offshoot Genial besides - The Quiz he has been seen often since July 2018. In February 2018 the comedy show Guckst Du ?! Kaya's big cinema show with Kaya Yanar.

Yanar has been streaming live on Twitch.tv since February 2020 .

Family and private

Before they emigrated to Germany, Yanar's parents lived in the southern Turkish city of Antakya and are of Turkish - Arab origin. Yanar is a vegetarian and an occasional vegan . He is also an animal rights activist and supports the animal rights organization PETA with motifs on the subject of fur as well as vegetarian and vegan nutrition. He has a brother. Between 2003 and 2005, Yanar was in a relationship with Mirja Boes . In 2018 he married his longtime girlfriend; the couple has lived in Zurich since 2012 .
