The Heinrich-Middendorf-Oberschule Aschendorf is a secondary and secondary school in Aschendorf , a current district of the Lower Saxony city of Papenburg . 349 students are taught by 32 teachers. Since 2005 it has been an independent school in the Lower Saxony project “Extended personal responsibility in schools and quality comparisons in educational regions and networks”.

The school is named after Heinrich Middendorf , a Righteous Among the Nations .

history

The school was founded in 1897 as a private rectorate school for the classes Sexta, Quinta and Quarta (5–7) in the then independent community of Aschendorf. After the First World War , the lower and upper tertia were added.

Banned after the Nazis came to power due to its Catholic orientation, the school was reopened as a public secondary school on April 1, 1939 . Towards the end of the Second World War , the school was used as a military hospital and only resumed classes on April 1, 1949 as the Aschendorf Middle School after a four-year compulsory break. In 1952 Aschendorf received town charter and was a district town until 1972. In 1965, the name of the school type "middle school" was legally changed to " Realschule " in Lower Saxony . In the course of the municipality reform in Lower Saxony, the then integrated municipality of Aschendorf was dissolved on January 1, 1973 and incorporated into the city of Papenburg, where it has since formed a district.

In 1997, the school was renamed Heinrich Middendorf Realschule Aschendorf after its former student Heinrich Middendorf . Since the merger with the St. Amandus secondary school in the 2007/2008 school year, the school has had its current name and since then has consisted of a secondary school and a secondary school branch. From the 2011/2012 school year, however, the Heinrich-Middendorf-Realschule became an upper school.

In 2007 Erika Behrens moved from the Papenburger Realschule to the Heinrich-Middendorf-Schule and was headmaster there until 2015. In 2011 the high school was introduced and thus this school was renamed Heinrich-Middendorf-Oberschule Aschendorf.

For the 2015/2016 school year, Erika Behrens retired and Claus Huth was appointed the new headmaster.

Foreign language teaching

The school offers English as the first foreign language from grade five and French as a second from grade six as an elective.
