Monterosso Almo is an Italian municipality in the Ragusa municipality in the autonomous region of Sicily with 2886 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) and is a member of the association I borghi più belli d'Italia (The Most Beautiful Places in Italy)
Location and dates
Monterosso Almo is 28 km north of Ragusa . The inhabitants live mainly from agriculture and cattle breeding.
The neighboring municipalities are Chiaramonte Gulfi , Giarratana , Licodia Eubea ( CT ), Vizzini ( CT ) and Ragusa .
The Monterosso Almo station was on the narrow-gauge Giarratana – Vizzini railway .
history
The place was founded by the Normans and developed in the 14th century with the construction of the fort. The name at the time was Iahalmo. The city was destroyed in the earthquake in 1693 and was rebuilt on Monte Lauro.
