Vizzini is a city of the metropolitan city of Catania in the region of Sicily in Italy with 5959 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019).

Location and dates

Vizzini is located 65 km southwest of Catania on the southwest slope of Monte Lauro. The inhabitants work mainly in agriculture ( cereals , prickly pears , vegetables and sumac ).

The neighboring municipalities are: Buccheri ( SR ), Francofonte ( SR ), Giarratana ( RG ), Licodia Eubea , Militello in Val di Catania ( RG ) and Mineo .

history

The area of ​​the municipality was already settled in the late Bronze Age. In Roman times the place Bidis was located here. Today's community was built around a castle in the Middle Ages. The castle no longer exists today.
