Aci Sant'Antonio is a town and municipality in the metropolitan city of Catania in the Sicily region in Italy with 18,163 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019).

Location and dates

Aci Sant'Antonio is located 20 kilometers north of Catania on the southeastern slope of Mount Etna and about four kilometers from the sea. The inhabitants mainly work in agriculture and in quarries.

The neighboring municipalities are Aci Bonaccorsi , Aci Catena , Acireale , Valverde , Viagrande and Zafferana Etnea .

history

The place was founded in the Middle Ages. When Mount Etna erupted in 1169, 1329, 1408 and 1693, large parts of the village were destroyed. The place was rebuilt each time.
