Pedara is a city in the metropolitan city of Catania in the Sicily region in Italy with 14,822 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019).

Location and dates

Pedara is located 20 kilometers north of Catania on the southern slope of Mount Etna . The inhabitants mainly work in the timber trade, tourism and wine growing.

The neighboring municipalities are Mascalucia , Nicolosi , San Giovanni la Punta , Trecastagni , Tremestieri Etneo and Zafferana Etnea .

history

The place originally belonged to Catania. The community has been independent since 1642. The name of the place comes from the Latin word lapidaria (Eng .: stone quarries). The stone around Pedara is dark and promotes viticulture.
