Milo is a city in the metropolitan city of Catania in the region of Sicily in Italy with 1041 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019).

Location and dates

Milo is 36 kilometers west of Catania on the eastern slope of Mount Etna . The inhabitants mainly work in the timber trade, tourism and vine cultivation.

The districts are Caselle, Fornazzo and Milo.

The neighboring municipalities are Giarre , Sant'Alfio and Zafferana Etnea .

history

The place was founded in the 14th century. Until 1923 the place belonged to Giarre, then until 1955 to the place Sant'Alfio. In 1955 Milo became self-employed.

Attractions

The center of the place is the Piazza Belvedere, from whose wide terrace you can see the sea as far as Calabria . The church of Sant'Andrea is located in the Piazza die. This church was built on the spot where Giovanni d'Aragona had a small church built in 1340, which was dedicated to St. John. Below the piazza is the Parco Botanico ( Botanical Garden ) with playgrounds. Along the Via Etnea, not far from the Palazzo Municipale and the Piazza Belvedere, you can stow the l'abbiviraturi (a potion). This trough was built from lava in the 19th century. The place is the starting point for a visit to Mount Etna.
