Grammichele is a city of Metropolitan city of Catania in the Region of Sicily in Italy with 13,145 inhabitants (December 31, 2019).

Location and dates

Grammichele is 68 km southwest of Catania . The residents mainly work in agriculture.

The place has a train station on the Lentini Diramazione – Caltagirone – Gela railway .

The neighboring communities are Caltagirone , Licodia Eubea and Mineo .

history

The place comes from the sikulisch -griechischen time. The city was destroyed in the 1693 earthquake and then rebuilt. The result was a city with a strict geometric plan in the form of a hexagon , starting from the central square in the city center, which is also hexagonal. The main streets are at right angles from the sides of this central square.
