Riposto is a port city in the metropolitan city of Catania in the Region of Sicily in Italy with 14,504 inhabitants (December 31, 2019). In the long time until the end of the 1990s, when the red wines of Sicily were named not after their place of origin or the grape variety, but after the port from where they were shipped, Riposto was one of them.
Location and dates
Riposto is located 32 km north of Catania directly on the sea. The residents mainly work in agriculture and tourism.
The neighboring municipalities are Acireale , Giarre and Mascali .
history
Originally Riposto and Giarre were districts of the city of Mascali. In 1915 the municipalities of Riposto and Giarre became independent, reunited and in 1945 finally became independent municipalities.
Attractions
The Cathedral of San Pietro was built in the neoclassical style. The town hall was built in 1928. The Palazzo dei Principi Natoli in the Torre Archirafi fraction.
