Giuseppe Costanzo (clergyman)
Giuseppe Costanzo (born January 2, 1933 in Carruba di Riposto , Province of Catania , Italy ) is retired Archbishop of Syracuse .
Life
Giuseppe Costanzo was born on January 2, 1933 in Carruba di Riposto, a district of the municipality of Riposto in Sicily . On August 15, 1955 he was ordained a priest for the diocese of Acireale . He was professor of exegesis and biblical languages at the seminary of Acireale and became the rain of the seminary there.
On February 21, 1976 he was appointed by Pope Paul VI. Appointed Titular Bishop of Mazaca and Auxiliary Bishop of the Diocese of Acireale . He received his episcopal ordination on April 4, 1976, the Archbishop of Palermo , Salvatore Cardinal Pappalardo ; Co- consecrators were Pasquale Bacile , Bishop of Acireale, and Domenico Picchinenna , Archbishop of Catania .
In 1982 Pope John Paul II appointed him Bishop of Nola and on December 7, 1989 Archbishop of Syracuse. On September 12, 2008, Pope Benedict XVI. Costanzo's resignation request submitted for reasons of age.
