Domenico Picchinenna

Domenico Picchinenna (born December 26, 1912 in Melfi ; † October 24, 2004 ) was Archbishop of Catania .

Life

Domenico Picchinenna was ordained a priest on July 21, 1935 .

Pope Pius XII appointed him on July 2, 1954 Bishop of Acerenza . The Secretary of the Consistorial Congregation , Adeodato Giovanni Cardinal Piazza OCD , consecrated him bishop on October 7th of the same year ; Co- consecrators were Augusto Bertazzoni , Archbishop ad personam of Potenza e Marsico Nuovo , and Domenico Petroni , Bishop of Melfi e Rapolla and Venosa .

As a motto he chose In aedificatione corporis Christi . John XXIII appointed him on September 4, 1961 Bishop of Cosenza . He attended every session of the Second Vatican Council . Paul VI appointed him on May 29, 1971 Coadjutor Archbishop of Catania and Titular Archbishop of Beroea . After Guido Luigi Bentivoglio's OCist retired , he succeeded him on July 16, 1974 as Archbishop of Catania. On June 1, 1988, John Paul II accepted his age-related resignation.
