The Karakuz Dam ( Karakuz Barajı in Turkish ) is located in the southern Turkish province of Adana about 15 km north of the town of Karaisalı in the Taurus Mountains on the course of the Körkün Çayı .
The Karakuz Dam was built in 2011–2014. The barrier structure forms a concrete gravity dam . It has a height of 45 m above the foundation level and a crown length of about 200 m. It dams the Körkün Çayı over a length of 6.2 km. The target is 830 m . The reservoir covers an area of 30 ha. The storage volume is 5.1 million m³.
The Karakuz hydropower plant ( ⊙ ) is located at the foot of the Taurus Mountains on the right bank of the Körkün Çayı. Part of the river water flows from the dam to the power plant via an 11 km long tunnel with a diameter of 3 m and a subsequent pressure pipe (1650 m long with 2 m diameter). The facility has a 70 m high water tower . The hydraulic potential is 530 m. The power plant has two vertical-axis Pelton turbines of 38 megawatts each . The expected standard energy capacity is between 276 and 305 GWh per year. The expansion flow is 16.4 m³ / s. In the second half of 2015, the power plant should reach its full capacity.
