Corrado Cardinal Ursi (born July 26, 1908 in Andria , Province of Barletta-Andria-Trani , Italy , † August 29, 2003 in Naples ) was Archbishop of Naples .

Life

Corrado Ursi studied Catholic theology and philosophy in Andria and Molfetta . He received on 25 July 1931, the sacrament of Holy Orders , and then worked as chancellor of and rain at the Pontifical Seminary of Molfetta and as a pastor in different communities.

Pope Pius XII appointed him on July 29, 1951 Bishop of Nardò . He was ordained bishop on September 30th of the same year by the later Cardinal Carlo Confalonieri , then Secretary of the Congregation for Seminaries and Universities . Pope John XXIII transferred to him on November 30, 1961 the management of the Archdiocese of Acerenza . Corrado Ursi took part in the Second Vatican Council from 1962 to 1965 . Pope Paul VI appointed him Archbishop of Naples on May 23, 1966 and accepted him a year later, on June 26, 1967, as a cardinal priest with the titular church of San Callisto in the college of cardinals . During his time as Archbishop of Naples, he was also Grand Chancellor of the Pontifical Theological Faculty of Southern Italy. He attended the conclave in both August and October 1978 .

Corrado Cardinal Ursi resigned the leadership of the Archdiocese of Naples in 1987 for reasons of age. He then became an honorary citizen of Naples. Cardinal Ursi died on August 29, 2003 at the age of 95 in Naples and was buried in the basilica of Capodimonte . At the time of his death, he was the last cardinal created in the 1967 consistory .
