Alfonso Cardinal Castaldo (born November 6, 1890 in Casoria , Province of Naples , Italy , † March 3, 1966 in Naples ) was Archbishop of Naples .

Life

Alfonso Castaldo studied philosophy and Catholic theology in Naples . On June 8, 1913, he received the sacrament of ordination . From 1914 to 1918 he took part in the First World War as a military chaplain . He then worked in various parishes in the Archdiocese of Naples until 1934 .

In 1934 Pope Pius XI appointed him . to the Bishop of Pozzuoli . The episcopal ordination received by Cardinal Alfonso Castaldo Alessio Ascalesi , the archbishop of Naples. In 1949 Pope Pius XII awarded him . the title of Assistant to the Papal Throne , in 1950 he appointed Alfonso Castaldo Coadjutor Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Naples and Titular Archbishop of Thessalonica . On February 7, 1958, Alfonso Castaldo took over the management of the Archdiocese of Naples. On December 15 of the same year, Pope John XXIII took him . as a cardinal priest with the titular church of San Callisto in the college of cardinals . He took part in the Second Vatican Council and the conclave of 1963.

Alfonso Castaldo died on March 3, 1966 in Naples and was buried in the cathedral there.
