Marcello Mimmi
Marcello Cardinal Mimmi (born July 18, 1882 in Poggio di Castel San Pietro Terme , Province of Bologna , Italy , † March 6, 1961 in Rome ) was Archbishop of Naples and later a Cardinal Curia of the Roman Catholic Church .
Life
Marcello Mimmi received his theological and philosophical studies at the seminary of Bologna , and received on 23 December 1905, the sacrament of Holy Orders . From 1905 to 1930 he was a member of the teaching staff of the seminary of Bologna and also worked as a parish pastor . From July 1916, Mimmi was the military chaplain for prisoners of war before he was released from the army in early 1919. At the end of the twenties he headed the Romagna regional seminar .
In 1930 Pope Pius XI appointed him . to the Bishop of Crema . He received the episcopal ordination on July 25, 1930 by Giovanni Cardinal Nasalli Rocca di Corneliano . Because of his commitment to the poor people of Crema, Mimmi was soon called the bishop of the poor . In 1933 he became Archbishop of Bari . In this function, he convinced the then young criminal law professor Aldo Moro in 1946 to run for the constituency of Bari in the election for the constituent assembly of Italy and thus set the impetus for Moro's political career. Pope Pius XII appointed him Archbishop of Naples in 1952 and accepted him a year later as a cardinal priest with the titular church of San Callisto in the college of cardinals . Marcello Mimmi directed several papal embassies in Italy and abroad. In 1957 he became secretary of the Consistorial Congregation and resigned the leadership of the Archdiocese of Naples the following year. In 1958 he was made Cardinal Bishop of Sabina-Poggio Mirteto . Cardinal Mimmi also took part in the 1958 conclave in which Pope John XXIII. was chosen.
Marcello Mimmi died on March 6, 1961 in Rome and was buried in the Cathedral of Magliano Sabina . Numerous obituaries were published after his death, including those of John XXIII. and Cardinal Giacomo Lercaro , who particularly praised his humble way of life.
