Giuseppe Vairo

Giuseppe Vairo (born January 24, 1917 in Paola ; † July 25, 2001 ) was Archbishop of Potenza-Muro Lucano-Marsico Nuovo .

Life

Giuseppe Vairo was ordained a priest on June 16, 1940 .

John XXIII appointed him on July 8, 1961 auxiliary bishop in Cosenza and titular bishop of Uthina . The Archbishop of Rossano , Giovanni Rizzo , consecrated him bishop on August 20th of the same year ; Co- consecrators were Raffaele Barbieri , Bishop of Cassano all'Jonio , and Umberto Luciano Altomare , Auxiliary Bishop of Mazara del Vallo .

The Pope appointed him Bishop of Gravina e Irsina ( Montepeloso ) on January 19, 1962 . He attended all the sessions of the Second Vatican Council . Paul VI appointed him on December 22, 1970 Archbishop of Acerenza . He resigned from his position as Bishop of Gravina e Irsina (Montepeloso) on December 23, 1971. On March 5, 1973 he was appointed Bishop of Melfi - Rapolla and Bishop of Venosa . On October 25, 1976 he was appointed Bishop of Tricarico . He was appointed Archbishop of Potenza - Marsico Nuovo and Bishop of Muro Lucano on December 3, 1977. He resigned from his office as Archbishop of Acerenza on February 12, 1979. On September 30, 1986 he was appointed Archbishop of Potenza-Muro Lucano-Marsico Nuovo. On January 19, 1993, John Paul II accepted his age-related resignation.
