Salvatore Pappalardo (born March 18, 1945 in Nicolosi ) is an Italian clergyman and emeritus Roman Catholic Archbishop of Syracuse .

Life

Salvatore Pappalardo was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Catania on June 30, 1968 .

Pope John Paul II appointed him Bishop of the Diocese of Nicosia in 1998 . He was ordained bishop on March 5, 1998, by the Archbishop of Catania Luigi Bommarito ; Co- consecrators were Giuseppe Costanzo , Archbishop of Syracuse, and the Apostolic Nuncio in Brazil Alfio Rapisarda .

Benedict XVI. appointed him Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Syracuse in 2008 . Salvatore Pappalardo was the delegate for the liturgy in the Sicilian Bishops' Conference .

On July 24, 2020, Pope Francis accepted Salvatore Pappalardo's request for resignation for reasons of age. and named Francesco Lomanto as his successor.
