Pio Vittorio Vigo (born November 4, 1935 in Acireale , Province of Catania , Italy ) is Bishop Emeritus of Acireale .

biography

Pio Vittorio Vigo studied in Rome at the Almo Collegio Capranica . He was ordained a priest on September 20, 1958. In 1963 he received his doctorate from the Pontifical Gregorian University .

On January 13, 1981 Pio Vittorio Vigo was appointed titular bishop of Astigi and auxiliary bishop in Catania . He received his episcopal ordination on February 14, 1981 from Salvatore Cardinal Pappalardo .

On March 7, 1985 Pio Vittorio Vigo was appointed Bishop of Nicosia , and on May 24, 1997 Archbishop of Monreale . During his term of office the dissolution of the ecclesiastical province of Monreale fell on December 2, 2000 and the assignment of the archbishopric as a suffragan to the ecclesiastical province of Palermo .

On October 15, 2002, Pio Vittorio Vigo was appointed Bishop of Acireale . The official inauguration took place on November 30, 2002 in the Cathedral of Acireale . On July 26, 2011, Pope Benedict XVI. Pio Vittorio Vigo's motion to resign from the office of Bishop of Acireale for reasons of age.

Pio Vittorio Vigo is a delegate for the consecrated life in the Sicilian Bishops' Conference .
