Guerino Grimaldi

Guerino Grimaldi (born September 11, 1916 in Roccapiemonte , † April 12, 1992 in Salerno ) was an Italian clergyman and archbishop of Salerno-Campagna-Acerno .

Life

He was the son of Raffaele Grimaldi and his wife Maria Polichetti. After leaving school, he studied at the theological faculty of the University of Naples , where he obtained a licentiate . The ordination received Guerino Grimaldi on July 13, 1941 the Archbishop of Salerno Nicola Monte Risi . Then he worked in Salerno as a teacher and pastor.

Pope Paul VI appointed him on February 2, 1968 titular bishop of Salapia and auxiliary bishop in Salerno and Acerno. He was ordained bishop on April 21 of the same year by the Prefect of the Congregation for Bishops , Carlo Cardinal Confalonieri ; Co- consecrators were Demetrio Moscato , Archbishop of Salerno-Acerno, and Federico Pezzullo , Bishop of Policastro . After the death of Archbishop Moscato on October 22, 1968 Guerino Grimaldi was until the appointment of Archbishop Gaetano Pollio on February 5, 1969, Capitular Vicar of the Archdiocese of Salerno, then its Vicar General .

On March 19, 1971, Guerino Grimaldi was appointed Bishop of Nola , and until 1978 he was apostolic administrator of the Acerra diocese, which had been vacant since 1966 . He was appointed coadjutor archbishop of Salerno and coadjutor bishop of the diocese of Campagna on July 2, 1982 , and also appointed apostolic administrator of Acerno. On October 20, 1984, following the resignation of Archbishop Pollio, Guerino Grimaldi finally became Archbishop of Salerno, Bishop of Campagna and continued to serve as Apostolic Administrator of Acerno. With the unification of the three dioceses on September 30, 1986 he became Archbishop of Salerno-Campagna-Acerno.

Guerino Grimaldi suffered a heart attack on April 12, 1992, shortly after the celebration of Palm Sunday Mass , and died around 1.30 p.m. He was buried at his request in the cemetery in his hometown Roccapiemonte.
