Gerardo Pierro

Gerardo Pierro (born April 26, 1935 in Mercato San Severino , Province of Salerno , Italy ) is retired Archbishop of Salerno-Campagna-Acerno .

Life

Gerardo Pierro was ordained a priest on December 21, 1957 .

Pope John Paul II appointed him Bishop of Tursi-Lagonegro on June 26, 1981 . The episcopal ordination received his Cardinal Sebastiano Baggio Cardinal on August 2 of that year in the Cathedral of Salerno ; Co- consecrators were Gaetano Pollio PIME , Archbishop Emeritus of Salerno-Acerno , and Angelo Campagne , Bishop of Caiazzo and Alife .

On February 28, 1987, John Paul II called him Bishop of Avellino and on May 25, 1992 Archbishop of Salerno-Campagna-Acerno.

On June 10, 2010, Pope Benedict XVI. his resignation request submitted for reasons of age.
