Luigi Moretti (born February 7, 1949 in Cittareale , Rieti Province , Italy ) is an Italian clergyman and emeritus Roman Catholic Archbishop of Salerno-Campagna-Acerno .

Life

In 1960, Moretti entered the Roman Boys' College , where he obtained the classical Matura in 1968 . He then became an alumnus of the Pontifical Roman Seminary and began studying Catholic theology and philosophy at the Pontifical Lateran University , from which he graduated with a bachelor's degree in philosophy. He also obtained a licentiate in moral theology from the Pontifical Academy Alfonsiana .

On November 30, 1974, Cardinal Vicar Ugo Poletti ordained him to the priesthood . Then he was assistant at the Pontifical Roman Seminary until 1978 and taught moral theology at the Pontifical Theological Faculty of St. Bonaventure and the Institute Regina Mundi from 1976 to 1980 .

Pope John Paul II appointed him titular bishop of Mopta and auxiliary bishop in Rome on July 3, 1998 . The episcopal ordination received his Cardinal Vicar Camillo Ruini on 12 September of the same year; Co-consecrators were the auxiliary bishops Cesare Nosiglia and Clemente Riva IC . As a motto he chose Christ liberabit nos . On October 17, 2003, John Paul II pro hac vice raised him to the rank of titular archbishop.

Pope Benedict XVI appointed him on June 10, 2010 Archbishop of Salerno-Campagna-Acerno . The solemn inauguration ( enthronement ) took place on September 12 of the same year.

Pope Francis accepted his early resignation on May 4, 2019.
