Ugo Poletti
Ugo Cardinal Poletti (born April 19, 1914 in Omegna , Verbano-Cusio-Ossola Province , Italy ; † February 25, 1997 in Rome ) was Archbishop of Spoleto and Curia Cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church .
Life
Ugo Poletti received his philosophical and theological training in the seminary of Novara and received on 29 June 1938, the sacrament of Holy Orders . He worked then as a parish pastoral and chancellor of the seminary of Novara.
From 1954 to 1958 he worked in the administration of the Diocese of Novara . 1958 he was by Pope Pius XII. Appointed Titular Bishop of Medeli and Auxiliary Bishop in Novara. He received his episcopal ordination on September 14, 1958, the Bishop of Novara, Vincenzo Gilla Gremigni ; Co- consecrators were Mario Longo Dorni , Bishop of Pistoia , and Francesco Brustia , Bishop of Andria . He took part in the Second Vatican Council from 1962 to 1965 and became Archbishop of Spoleto in 1967.
In 1969 Pope Paul VI appointed him . the Titular Archbishop of Aemona and Vicar General in the Diocese of Rome . On March 5, 1973 he accepted Ugo Poletti as cardinal priest with the titular church Santi Ambrogio e Carlo in the cardinals college and appointed him cardinal vicar . Ugo Poletti represented the Pope on several occasions as the papal legate . He attended the conclaves in August and October 1978. In 1989 he condemned the statements of a group of Italian theologians after they had criticized the administration of Pope John Paul II . In 1991 he resigned from all his offices for reasons of age. He died on February 25, 1997 after a heart attack in the Gemelli Clinic in Rome.
Cardinal Poletti was instrumental in founding the Society of Missionaries of St. Charles Borromeo (FSCB) .
According to a list by the Italian journalist Carmine Pecorelli, he is said to have been a member of the P2 Freemason Lodge, which was used as a secret political organization .
